TV Tidbits

Ok, so I just tried to write some great synopsis of "Pushing Daisies" that debuted Wednesday on ABC, as well as champion the great "Friday Night Lights" that premieres Friday on NBC. It was going to be great! The surreal "Daisies" vs. the real "FNL". However, every time I try, I either a) get interrupted to work (the gall!) or b) get distracted by the fact that Lindsay don't writ no good.

So, here's what I have to say about these two shows, in a nutshell:

* Pushing Daisies - ABC Wednesdays:
I liked this show, up until about 40 minutes in. It was really well designed and super super quirky and kinda funny, with a pretty good cast. Then the cute whimsical factor started getting on my nerves. I really wonder how long they will be able to continue this show without the ideas and themes getting old and annoying. Really? They hold hands with themselves in place of holding hands with each other? Really?

* Friday Night Lights - NBC Fridays:
This is by far, one of the best shows on TV. Unfortunately, it's also low-rated and barely squeaked back into NBC's fall lineup. It's consistently well acted and REAL. The characters deal with real problems in real ways. When Coach Taylor and his wife Tami (Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton) fight, they don't argue and then resolve it within 2 minutes. It doesn't all tie up with a pretty yellow and blue Dillon Panther ribbon. They fight and they get pissed, but you can tell they still love each other even if there is so much anger and tension in the room you could cut it with a knife. It's also humorous while being very poignant. Last season, they dealt with steroid use, infidelity, and parapalegics, as well as the ackwardness in asking out the coach's daughter, or the quasi-geek tutoring the football stud in English. (I say quasi because Landry will never be a full fledged geek in my eyes! No geek would ever front the Christian speed-rock band, Crucifictorious)
I never was REALLY into high school football, so I was a little wary at first (never wanted to see the movie), but this show is so much more than that. Try a couple of episodes or two. They could use the ratings. Go on, just try it. For those of you with a life, get a season pass on your Tivo so that you can enjoy it Sunday, while recovering from your nights out on Friday and Saturday. Please please please! Don't let it go the way of Arrested Development into early retirement!

p.s. When they released the Season 1 DVD for FNL, it came with a money back guarantee. Love this show or you get your money back. That's how strongly they believe the show rocks.

p.p.s. If you want to catch up on Season 1 before the start of Season 2, it's available to watch here. Well, what are you waiting for? Go, go!

Maybe you don't like "Pushing Daisies" because you have no soul. You ever think of that? Didja? DIDJA?

FNL's pretty good though.
