Yay for the FNE! and for the York too!

Even since the local Albertson's closed up last year, I've been wondering what would take it's place. Too big of a space for Trader Joe's, but too small for a Vons. What IS going in there is a store called "Fresh&Easy" (I, for one, opt for calling it the "FNE" or "effin-E"). Finally! A supermarket that we can quickly jet out to when we need eggs or something that won't take 45 minutes to get thru. (I'm looking at you Albertsons!!! and to a certain extent: the Ralphs on Verdugo and Colorado!!!)

From what I hear, it's a chain from Britain specializing in fresh food that you can take home and quickly prepare. Which is fantastic to me because unlike some people I know, I am lazy in preparing dinner, especially when I get home late after work. So, quick & easy is good for me! The fact that it's also fresh is even better! The building is too big for just the FNE, so hopefully, some other businesses will move in. (Pleaaaaaseee 24 Hour Fitness!) Here's some pics that I found on Flickr documenting the construction of this new mecca-to-be.

On a different note, but equally satiating: The York has opened up recently. It's a new bar in the old The Wild Hare location (York and Ave. 50). And in my humble opinion, it's much, much better. The decor is more open, with exposed brick and lighting, and the drinks were poured with a heavy hand (probably will be for the first couple of months). They also have food like: pulled pork sandwiches, fish & chips, and cheese plates. I didn't get to try any of it, but what I saw looked and smelled delicious. Eagle Rock/Glassell Park is without a doubt, greatly in need of a good bar like this. The huge crowd that I saw on Friday proves my point entirely. It's not too scene-y yet, so it's definitely a place we'll be going to for a drink or to meet up with friends.
