I Wanna Rock 'N Roll All Nite...
The Hubband just got his XBox 360 Console back from the shop today* and we celebrated the occasion by playing the greatest game ever. Guitar Hero II. For those of you not familiar with it, it's a videogame in which you play a toy guitar along to several famous rock songs that play on your tv. There are colored frets and a strum bar on the guitar and your job is to play the notes on your guitar as the notes with the corresponding colors fly across your screen. It sounds really complicated, but it's actually really fun. And I don't really play videogames at all. Super Mario Bros. 3 (2 didn't really float my boat) or Mega Man is more my speed ( I guess I left my videogame thumbs at college in the late 90's). The Hubband, on the other hand, loves those first person shooter games, like Halo or more importantly, Splinter Cell.

I think one of the reasons why I love this game is because I'm actually kinda proficient at it. If I play the shooting games, I get my up and down mixed up with my left and right and inevitably end up running into the door jam several times and shooting myself in the foot. Guitar Hero is basically just coordination and rhythm; match the colored frets with the colored notes and rock out with Pearl Jam, or Heart, or Rush. Now I say proficient, but that's at the Medium Level. You only have to use 4 of the 5 buttons. If you choose the Hard or Expert Level, you have to whip up another finger somewhere to try and play that fifth fret. Our friend's brother* actually did play "YYZ" by Rush on Expert and blew us away. I couldn't even follow the notes as they raced across the screen, the song went so fast.
I think it secretly bugs the Hubband that I'm pretty good at GH II (oh yeah, I'm with it, I got the lingo down) because this is the only game in which I am actually better than him**. I think that my experience playing piano as a kid kinda also gives me a leg up. Which means, yes, those years of being made by my mom to take piano lessons actually paid off. So, thanks Mom! You were right about something yet again.
So, if you are bad at Silent Scope but absolutely kill at Dance Dance Revolution, then I highly recommend Guitar Hero II. You'll be up for hours playing, I guarantee it!***
Now excuse me, but I have an encore of "Freebird" to perform...
______
*Apparently, while playing a month ago, the console got the "three lights of death". This is a common occurrence with some consoles, which I guess overheat or something from all the geeks brushing up their "mad skillz" at Halo 2 in preparation for Halo 3.
**He doesn't really get upset, I just think that he's not used to that happening.
***Trust me. I know what I'm talking about.

Below, an example of a man playing "YYZ" at Expert level. ReDONKulous!
