Dapples from Movies & TV: Celeb Sightings

Whenever I talk to friends from out of town, they always ask me if I've met anyone famous. Given that I've lived in LA for almost all of my life, I have to say yes. But then, I can never think of anyone off the top of my head. And I think it's because of this: LA is the home of tons of celebrities. It's their little comfort zone. So, if I see Arsenio Hall at the Pier 1 Imports on Ventura buying throw pillows with his wife (true story), then I don't want to bother them and go on about how much I like their movie/show/blog/record/children's name. Let them be and live their lives like any normal, non-star/celebrity. That's how I would want to be treated if I were to become an international superstar. HOWEVER, they are still everywhere and with this blog, I will document the celebs that I see around town. I am not Gawker or Defamer(*RIP) and will not note precise details like time of day and intersections and all that. Not that there's anything wrong with t...

It's so addicting...

Since becoming a new Mom, I've learned a bunch. How to swaddle, how to take a baby's temperature (ugh), and how to babyproof. I've also discovered a bunch of new websites dedicated to making your life as a parent easier, cheaper, and more fun. One of these websites is Mamabargains.com . They bring you baby/kiddo/maternity items to you at a super discounted price. And after they sell out of the item, a new one pops up in it's place! It's amazingly addictive . I've purchased stuff for LMH there, as well as gifts for other little kiddos. I've also got some stuff for myself. I do end up spending a bit of time on this website, snapping up bargains, but the guilt isn't as bad because they are discounted by such a big amount. Plus, they've recently added USPS shipping options, so the shipping costs don't have to be so high. It's a great place to get something for your little one, as well as where to stock up on some great Christmas items....

Young Asian Comic = Tragic Health Club Incident?

Image
Last month I was reading an interview that USA Today did with Charlyne Yi. She's the comic/writer/actor from the movie "Paper Heart". She also played the stoner girlfriend from "Knocked Up" who talks about Katherine Heigl's fetus eating all of her food* . You know, that girl. And at the end of the piece, USA Today kindly pointed out some articles that I may also like... Why would my interest in Asian Female comic actresses/writers lead me to the shooting in Pittsburgh? It's neither funny nor romantic. Must have been a lot of Asians in the club? Yet another example of why it will take computers years to replace humans. *Which is all I could think about when I was in my first trimester...

Procrastination Station: Commercials

The winners of the Clio Awards were announced and I was pleased to find that the "Aaron Burr" Got Milk commercial was given Hall of Fame status. I remember how popular that spot was way back in 1993 when I was in High School. It kicked off the entire Got Milk campaign and is still memorable, if not a trivia question somewhere on Jeopardy.   You can watch the "Aaron Burr" spot, along with the other winners, over at the Clio Awards site.  I also really like these Pepsi Throwback commercials.  It's amazing what good voice acting makes in a commercial, tv show, or movie.  The voice of Pepsi really nails it.    What's Up 70's Decorative Mantlepiece?

Who says hard work doesn't pay off

Well, lookee here...today NBC announced their new Fall Lineup and ta-daa, " Chuck" is back!  Although it's coming back with a smaller budget, and a smaller cast, it will be back.  They don't need a lot of money to still write in those pop culture bon-mots that I love so much, so I'm fine with the new budget.  It won't be coming back until March 2010 though, and that's like foooorrreeever from now.   Here's what NBC exec Ben Silverman had to say about renewing our favorite spy-geek:  "And the demand for  Chuck  that came from online and the advertising base made us have to pick up that show. The other shows, there was not that kind of attention or energy." Did you read that right?  Demand that came from "online and the advertising base"?  That's me!  And you!  And the 4 other people that read this blog that sent their support towards the show.  First they bring back "Friday Night Lights", and now they bring back ...

Save Our Show!!: Chuck vs. NBC edition

Ok, so I used to watch a lot of tv. I grew up watching reruns of "Scooby-Doo" at 2:35 on WGN (why did everything start 5 minutes late?), early MTV when it was just videos, and "Beverly Hills 90210" when the exterior of The Peach Pit was really The Apple Pan on Pico. However, now that I have LMH, things are a bit different and I have cut back on my hours in front of the tube.* Due to my smaller viewing window, I have cutback on most of the crap tv that I normally watch and just watch the whittled down lineup, which in my mind is the best (Thank goodness for Tivo.) Survival of the fittest, you might say. But now it appears that NBC will cancel one of my top tier shows, "Chuck", which airs Monday nights at 8pm PST. I didn't really watch the first season (I was trying out "Reaper" for a bit), but I ended up watching the first season during its' hiatus and quickly became addicted. I would love this show just on the basis of all of the ...

NBC, for renewing Friday Night Lights for 2 more years !  The two seasons will debut on Directv first, NBC second.  They did this with this past season, and I love it.  Not only do we get to see the show "early", but Directv also shows FNL without commercials.  Believe it or not, this makes a big difference on how you watch the show and feel the emotional punches.  Watching a powerful scene and then watching 2 1/2 minutes of commercials for Jet-Dry (with the creepy talking dishwasher) or auto insurance kinda takes the wind out of the sails, you know? Woo!  We'll finally get to see what it will be like for Coach over at East Dillon High.

What the heck is a Boilermaker anyway?

Even though I've been super busy trying to juggle work with taking care of LMH, I have tried to carve out time in order to finish my picks for this years NCAA March Madness Bracket. I participate in George The Mets Fans' pool and every year, I do two brackets. One is a regular bracket that I try (read: usually pick the #1 seed) to fill out to the best of my ability. The other is more fun; it is based entirely on the mascots of the competing teams. The basic rule is this: if these two mascots were put into a ring together, who would come out alive? It's harder than you think. Take for example, the matchup between the Michigan St. Spartans and the Robert Morris Colonials. To me, Spartans are way tougher (hello, I did see 300 a whole bunch of times), BUT, the Colonials would probably have early models of guns. However, they probably are the ones you need to pack after shooting once, so maybe that would give the Spartan time to roll in with his sword and cut the Colo...

Procrastination Station: Puppy!

How can you NOT love a basset puppy named "Beans"? That doorstop never knew what hit it.

For all you know-it-alls out there, Jeopardy is holding online tests to determine upcoming contestants.  A part of me wants to take it just to see how well (or poorly) I would do as a contestant.  Kinda intriguing, don't you think?

Got a dry mouth from too many speeches? Tuckered out from all of the hand-shaking and photo-ops? Take a seat in "The Tank" and kick back with your very own Obama water. Because nothing says change like $1.49 for a bottle of water.

Well, Duh!

I know that I'm going through a slightly stressful time and that I still have a lack of sleep even though LMH sleeps through most of the night, but I nearly flipped out when I saw this on Yahoo today: Well, yeah, knucklehead!  I would expect a woman who has birthed 5 children and who now has to raise them on her own to be a bit tuckered out, yes.  Dummy.

Okay, so I've tried twice now to post about this. But dumb old Blogger keeps erasing it.  Arrrgh!  Celeb Sighting # 5 -  Basically: Me + Dupar's at The Farmer's Market + Bob Barker = the most awesome Celeb Sighting ever.  They (Bob and Tom Bergeron, host of tons of shows like "Dancing with The Stars") sat behind me as I was eating breakfast.  I tried not to pee in my pants as I was eavedropping, and I'm kicking myself for not breaking my rules and trying to talk to them.  Oh well.  It's best left to my memory. Below is my lame attempt at trying to snap a picture as they (Bob & Tom Bergeron) were leaving.
